Legally, Prostitution is the sale of sexual services. The services may consist of any sexual acts, including those which do not involve copulation. While payment may be any nonsexual consideration, most commonly it is the form of "money".
In other words: "Sex may only be exchanged for Sex, and Sex has been redefined by law to mean: Any Non Sexual Act. Anything other than Sex of any value, is defined by law to be a consideration, which must be of exactly equal exchange for some inverse exchange of consideration other than sex, or the law may freely create artificial exchanges by interpretation."
Such all inclusive languaging greatly supports selective enforcement, for in fact, there is no sexual act which is not a commercial act, according to statutory definition. Thus, selective enforcement is an abusively powerful system for the patriarchy to enforce absolute control of women.
In the real world, people relate with each other. In the corporatocracy, we lose the humanity of our interactions, The average person in corporatocracy is in fact a prostitute, because we interact in the roles defined by our corporate positions. This constitutes an enforced prostitution, and is why very little of our modern world is not unhealthy. Corporations now control our reality, and they pimp us to serve their ends (profit).
In the Bazaar, we all interact humanely as equal sovereigns. In the Cathedral, we all bow down to our false corporate gods, and our relationships are subverted not to serve our own ends, but to serve our corporate god's ends. I suggest more of us spend more time in the Bazaar, and less in the Cathedral.
Prostitution is when money is the critical motivation for some activity. The average person in corporatocracy is in fact a prostitute. Most people do the jobs they do only for the money, not because they actually enjoy "the work" enough to continue doing it even without a monetary reward. You can verify this by asking them if they'd still do what they now do as "work", if they'd just won or inherited a billion dollars, and no longer had to work for a living. This is also a reminder that what anyone does for a living is not who they are, which may also remind us that we are spirits incarnate in bodies. Prostitution is a word which applies to far more circumstances than the usual legal definition, where the meaning is focussed only upon "whoring". The English language definition "the act, or an instance of, offering or devoting one's talent to an unworthy use or cause", is far more akin in meaning to the word "pollution" than to "whoring".
Ask any boy or girl what they want to be when they grow up, and my guess is that the majority of them will not respond: "I want to be a minimum wage laborer", yet most of them will start out in some such job, prostituting their truth, their desires, their true choices, just to obtain a periodic paycheck. You can pretty well bet that, they are prostituting, even though it is probable that they have never "whored", (sold sex for money).
On the other hand, selling sex for money, or "whoring" can be done in truth and appropriateness, through very selective choice of customers. There are quite a few who whore who are not prostitutes, for they actually love what they do, and would continue to engage in promiscuous sex even without the monetary reward. One who whores, who does not prostitute themself, is one who allows themself to be monetarily rewarded in addition to a fundamentaly appropriate choice of having sex with someone she would have sex with even without monetary reward. Yes, it is true that much whoring coincides with prostitution, but it is essential to understand, that while most people and most law fails to make this distinction, for it is nearly impossible to judge externally, that there truly is a distinction, and only the one whoring can know in the moment, whether she is for a given session, "whoring" or "prostituting". In many cases a fancy name for a legal whore is "wife". Many women, disempowed by the patriarchal system, seek to have their survival needs (money) met by one consistent trick (named "husband"). The essential purpose of modern patriarchal religions and society is to force this system of disempowerment upon the individual female and to allow her re-empowerment only via marriage (monogamous prostitution), for the overriding purpose of men being able to totally control women and the propogation of their DNA. Sacred Sex is a concept much suppressed in what passes for current "culture".
Being a spirit incarnate in a human body places every one of us into the challenging situation of walking simultaneously in paradoxical realites. To serve the highest of spiritual principles may compromise the integrity of our physical bodies, resulting in death. To serve the highest level of "survival of the fittest" in the physical body may compromise the integrity of our soul and / or spirit, resulting in becoming lost in the dark side, or having our soul extinguished all together. Whenever we violate our own spiritual ethics, we generate negative self-karma. When we make a choice to serve some physical goal like "getting rich" at the expense of our soul truth, we are committing spiritual prostitution, prostituting our soul for worldly gain.
Since the only aspect of us which is eternal is our consciousness, and the primary reason to "do" anything is to grow / evolve our consciousness, anything which slows down, negates, or reverses our soul growth, is less than an ideal choice. When we merge spiritual energy with any entities or energies which reduce our vibrational frequency, we have polluted our soul with something unhealthy for the soul. We are most vulnerable to merging inappropriately with lower vibrations while we sleep, therefor, to sleep with someone of lower vibrations pollutes our soul. One of the vulnerabilites we experience while awake is the merging of energies through sexual connection, therefor, for whatever reason we may do such sexual merging with inappropriately lower vibration / lower conscious beings, we are polluting our soul.
This book describes the aspect of the feminine which is missing in the 20th and 21st century society. Patriarchy takes it's toll on both men and women. The consequences (primarily dysfunction) of the out-of-balance state created through patriarchal suppression of the goddess/feminine, and what is necessary to heal that wounding within each of us, both male and female, is well described in the book. While much of current worldwide patriarchy suppresses or denies "the goddess", it is obvious that ultimately the god and goddess are indivisible. It takes only a little research into reincarnation to discover that even human spirits/souls embody in both female and male bodies, so the divine/spirit is androgynous. Most spirits who incarnate in human bodies on Terra/Gaia incarnate for a string of lifetimes in one sex body, then switch for a string of lifetimes in the other sex body.
Male role models in games are both criminal and evil. Why do we allow this? Because it's inside us. But where did that evil come from? Well, we're getting help, help from evil 4th dimensional wraiths who feed upon our life force energy, and for whom the tastiest meal is our negative emotions, so they continually manipulate us to do evil to each other in order to feast on our evil, abuse, suffering, rage, etc. They either overshadow beings in power and control, or they channel through organic portals to ensure that only psychotics run this planet.
One of the issues of concern with potential partners, is the issue of rape, or forced sex. Some women permit the equivalent within relationship despite not preferring it, which then is a form of prostitution.
Extreme sexual passion can look a lot like the desirer devouring the desired, but the fundamental concern is permission.
For those who have experience with the demands of testosterone, it becomes necessary for the individual to develop, some manner of overcoming the undeniable animal instinct to jump a female, regardless of whether she consents or not.
Within the structure of masculine consciousness, the manner in which one creates a separation between the passions of animal lust for body, and the social need of restraint, is to fetishize sexuality, to redirect it from the female physical body, to certain feminine expressions.
One form of this is this perspective: The nude female form is a divine goddess, being both the untouched virgin, and the untouchable, not to be sexually approached.
She is to be related with, in a higher manner, in the higher chakras, to be loved, at the heart and soul level.
One may live with an open heart, so that always love is available, and the focus may be quickly brought to that focal point with a simple request for a hug / cuddle / snuggle.
To feel that permission has been granted to approach sexually, to unleash lust and passion, requires that the female so signify, e.g. by dressing erotically.

I'm sure that none are more surprised than I to discover that I'm "a well-known sociologist", but neither can I deny the assertion :-)
